UniSalad Privacy Policy

UniSalad respects your privacy. Your privacy is important to us, and so is being transparent about how we collect, use, and share information about you. In this Privacy Policy, you will learn what kind of personal data we collect and how we store, protect and use your personal data. Furthermore, you will understand for which purposes we will use your personal data and with whom your data will be shared.

UniSalad will not collect, use or disclose your personal data without your consent. Before installation of the UniSalad mobile application software (the "App"), therefore, you must indicate your consent to our processing of your personal data as described in this Privacy Policy.

Agreeing to the privacy policy indicates you consent to the installation of the App for the purposes of connecting, buying, selling, finding and sharing with the student community of my University.

Not agreeing to the privacy policy indicates you do NOT consent to the installation of the App.

Once you provide consent by agreeing, you may change your mind and withdraw consent at any time by contacting us using the contact information below, but that will not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdraw your consent.

The App is run by UniSalad Limited ("UniSalad", "we", "our" or "us").

You have the right to make a complaint at any time to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority for data protection issues.

This Privacy Policy (together with our terms of use) applies to your use of:

  • The App once you have downloaded or streamed a copy of the App onto your mobile telephone or handheld device;
  • Any of UniSalad's services accessible through the App that are available on the App site unisalad.com.

This App is not intended for children and we do not knowingly collect data related to children.

Information we may collect from you

When you install the App, we will ask you to create an account using a university or college email address and password. You may create an account using either your Facebook login details or by creating your own account details.

We may collect, use, store and transfer the following personal data when you create your account:

  • Your first name and surname;
  • Your email address;
  • Your gender;
  • Your date of birth;
  • Your Facebook profile picture (if you sign up with Facebook); and
  • Your UniSalad profile photograph (if you upload your own photo)

We may collect, use, store and transfer personal data from you when:

  • you register with the App,
  • you update your settings and preferences in the App;
  • you make a post or advert on the App;
  • you send or receive messages from another App user via our messaging system
  • you respond to our direct marketing adverts;
  • you correspond with us by post to our registered address or by email (support@unisalad.co.uk) or via the Contact Us section within the App;
  • you or your user content is reported to us by another user of the App or by a third party; and
  • we monitor and analyse trends and usage of the App.

Each time you use the App, we may collect, use, store and transfer the following information:

  • Technical information about your mobile device or computer (in each case "Device"), including, where available, your Device's IP address and other unique identifiers, operating system and browser type, as well as your Device's mobile network information. This is statistical data about our users' browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual;

  • information stored on your Device, including contact information and login information;

  • Details about your use of the App, including pages and screens you visit, length of visit, and buttons and links you click on. This is statistical data about our users' browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual;

  • Information we receive from other sources. We may work closely with third parties (including, for example, business partners, sub-contractors in technical, payment and delivery services, advertising networks, analytics providers, search information providers, credit reference agencies); and

  • Unique application numbers: when you install or uninstall the App or when it searches for automatic updates, its unique application number and information about your installation, for example, the type of operating system, may be sent to us.

Our policy is to only store and process personal data that is essential in providing you with the best service possible. We do not store or otherwise use personal data we don't use.

How we use information we collect

We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to do so. Most commonly, we will use your personal data in the following circumstances:

  • Where you have consented before the processing;
  • Where we need to perform a contract we are about to enter or have entered with you;
  • Where it is necessary for our legitimate interests (or those of a third party) and your interests and fundamental rights do not override those interests; and
  • Where we need to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation.

We may use your personal data in the following ways:

  • to install the App and register you as a new user;
  • to identify you as a unique user, and to create a public profile so you can identify yourself and interact with other users;
  • to verify your identity and prevent fraud or other unauthorised or illegal activity;
  • to develop, operate, improve, deliver, maintain and protect our products and services.
  • to administer and maintain our records and systems, including troubleshooting, data analysis and system testing;
  • to keep your account active and updated;
  • to manage our relationship with you, including notifying you of changes to the App or any services;
  • to inform you of a message you have received from another user;
  • to inform you of a reported complaint against you or to update you on a complaint or query you have made, and to review any complaints made about you or to gather further information about a dispute;
  • to provide you with the information that you have requested from us;
  • to contact you for market research purposes or to notify you about changes to the App;
  • to improve the App and to ensure that content from the App is presented in the most effective manner for you and your computer or mobile device;
  • to inform you of any other services we offer on our App;
  • to help us maintain a safe service; and
  • to fulfil any contractual obligations we have with you.

We will only send you direct marketing communications by email if we have your consent. You have the right to withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us.

Facebook data

We may use your Facebook ID, name, Facebook email address and profile picture to complete your UniSalad Account. These "Facebook data" will be shown when you post on our App.

How we share information we collect

Marketing

We make use of third parties. We use these third parties to provide you and potential new users with relevant advertisements. We use the services of third parties by:

  • excluding existing UniSalad users from our acquisition campaigns;
  • retarget existing users; and
  • create similar audiences based on UniSalad users.

Age limit

If you are sixteen years or younger, you are not allowed to register your profile with UniSalad based on stringent parental consent requirements from the General Data Protection Regulation.

Third party websites

You may find advertising or other content on our App that links to the websites and services of our partners, suppliers, advertisers, sponsors, licensors and other third parties. We do not control the content or links that appear on these websites or services and are not responsible for the practices employed by websites linked to or from our App. In addition these websites or services, including their content and links, may be constantly changing. These websites and services may have their own privacy policies terms of use. Browsing and interaction on any other website or service, including websites that are linked to our App, are subject to the terms and policies of that website.

Modification to this Privacy Policy

We keep our Privacy Policy under regular review. We may as a result update the Privacy Policy from time to time. When we change the Privacy Policy in a significant way, we will post a notification on our App along with the updated Privacy Policy We may also notify you before you use our services that our Privacy Policy has been updated. You need to agree to the updated Privacy Policy before you can continue to use our App.

Your rights

You have the right to tell us if you:

  • do not want to be contacted in the future by us;
  • would like a copy of the personal information which we have processed about you;
  • would like us to correct, update or delete your personal information in our records; or
  • wish to report any misuse of your personal information.

You can also view, edit or delete your personal data by logging in to your personal account on the App.

You have the right to request information from us at any time about your personal data stored by us. If the legal requirements are met, you also have rights to request from us access to and rectification or erasure or restriction of processing concerning your personal data or to object to the processing of your personal data as well as the right to receive from us your personal data provided to us in a structured, established and machine-readable format. You can request your information by emailing support@unisalad.co.uk and we will respond to you with your information within 7 working days.

Account deactivation

You have the right to request the deletion of your account at any given time by contacting us. Just by uninstalling the UniSalad App, you will not be permanently deleting your UniSalad account and it will remain active for a period of time. When UniSalad deletes your account, any content or photos you have posted will be deleted and you won't be able to recover that information later. Information that others have shared about you is not part of your account and will not be deleted.

International Transfers

We do not transfer your personal data outside the European Economic Area.

Data Security

All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way.

Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password that enables you to access certain parts of our Sites, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share a password with anyone.

Certain services include social networking, chat room or forum features. Ensure when using these features that you do not submit any personal data that you do not want to be seen, collected or used by other users.

Data Retention

By law we have to keep basic information about our customers (including contact, identity, financial and transaction data) for six years after they cease being customers for tax purposes.

In some circumstances we will anonymise your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes, in which case we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.

In the event that you do not use the App for a period of 12 months then we will treat the account as expired and your personal data may be deleted.
